About the Concert

Music at St Mary is thrilled to announce a special Organ Concert in celebration of the Easter season, titled “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today: Organ Music for the Easter Season,” featuring renowned organist Dr. Richard Fitzgerald.

Dr. Fitzgerald, currently serving as the Director of Music and Organist of Saint Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, Ohio since 2015 and Director of Music for the Diocese of Columbus since December 2022, will perform a selection of Easter-themed repertoire. In addition to seasonal favorites, Dr. Fitzgerald will also present some of his own compositions and improvisations, offering a unique musical experience for attendees.

Prior to his tenure in Columbus, Dr. Fitzgerald served the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, for several years. His exceptional musical performances could be heard during internationally televised broadcasts, reflecting his esteemed reputation within the sphere of sacred music. Dr. Fitzgerald has also served Catholic parishes in numerous states, including New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and South Dakota.

Dr. Fitzgerald’s academic accomplishments are as impressive as his professional career. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he received a full scholarship as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Music Theory. He also earned a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from the Peabody Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey.

This Easter season, St. Mary Church invites all those who appreciate the power and beauty of organ music to experience this special concert. The event promises to be a celebration of the season, a testament to Dr. Fitzgerald’s musical talent, and an opportunity to connect with the local community.
